Help with the dog island on the wii?

My daughter is stuck on the dog island for the Wii. She cant work out how to put the hippo food on the tree stump. Can anyone help? Thanks

If she already found the hippo food, go near the tree stump and then a word will say ''put bait''.The hippo will go near the tree stump so you can jump to the other side.
