Help with this QUOTE! Anyone!?!?!?

Could you guys explain this quote to me in more depth.

"architecture is the work of nations" - John Ruskin

I want to use it for my essay, but I don't know how to explain it besides the obvious (that it international)

John Ruskin was a art critic, and during his life he started analyzing architecture as forms of art work. SO without know exactly how you would want to use it in your essay i would say that John Ruskin is saying how architecture is a form of art that only the nations of the world provide. But that is only one interpretation.

That architecture is inspired by every nation, you can go to new tork city and see a building that was inspired from a country onj the other side of the world.

I think it means when a nation builds it progresess and rely on each other to furthur the empire..hence architecture.

I think that nations have a great influence in architecture because nations want the best buildings and they want to impress other nations and intimidate them as well

i never actually heard this quote but sounds like architecture is designed and built up by the world (nations)and how its changed and developed and  upgraded

the development with architecture didnt just come to one person. it was developed throughout history.

one person made a pole. the other person put a design on a pole... the third person made it fancier... horrible example..

it means I THINK that architecture put together many nations just by building famous, great buildings. for example, the statue of liberty, the effil towers, the white house, ect. and then these famous buildings represent something.

or I THINK it means that long ago people made the white house, then later more people designed it better and made it look newer, and now today it is fancy and new. that is an example. that means that poeple will make something in history, but in the present work on it. and, these people could of got inspired from states and used the inspiration in countries. for example, buildings in washington dc might look like ones in mexico because one of them got inspired.
