  1. That would be A) Reduce soil nutrients depletion.

Due to the fact that different plants use different nutrients from the ground the constant growth of one crop in one set area will consistently deplete said nutrient from the area very fast. The technique of crop rotation was founded in the early Medieval Ages as I recall, though don't quote me on that.

A huge benefit to this is also in that certain crops release nutrients that other crops can benefit from, thus increasing efficiency, preventing nutrient depletion, and replenishing a land so as to avoid making it absolutely useless.

  2. A.  reduce soil nutrients depletion

Usually a legume is grown on the field such as soybeans, alfalfa, peas, peanuts, etc.  Legumes are nitrogen fixers (actually there are root nodule bacteria that convert nitrogen gas into forms usable by plants.)   The remains of the plants stays in the soil, decompose and release nitrogenous compounds.  Then a heavy feeder such as corn is grown the next season.  That is often followed by another cereal grains such as wheat, oats, or barley.  Then another legume is planted to restore the soil.
