Help with this math word problem.?

Suppose the balance of your checking account was $234.15 when you wrote a check for $439.87. Describe the accounts new balance.

Help with the word problem - the key words are "new balance"  so what you are looking for is the result if you have $234.15 in your account and try to subtract the amount of the check ($439.87) from it.  That result will be your new balance.

Hint - what would happen if I had $10 dollars in the account and wrote a check for $20?  The problem is the same, but the amounts are different.
