A nuclear research engineer swallows a liquid with an activity of 10 kBq. The liquid swallowed has a very long half life, which means that the activity level will not change by an appreciable amount during the life of the engineer. Each decay produces 1.40 x 10^-13 J of energy into hhs body. Assume the isotope is not eliminated by his body.

a) Determine the energy absorbed in one year due to the presence of the radioactive liquid

thanks heaps! after this I know how to calculate the absorbed dose and eq. dose (it asks for the absorbed and tells us his mass) but i cant seem to work out how to get the energy absorbed! thanks again

  1. There are 10,000 decays per second. Each one gives off 1.40 x 10^-13 J of energy into his body. That's 1.40 x 10^-9 J/s. Multiply that by 60x60x24x365.24.
