Help with uniden phone set.?

I have a cordless phone set by uniden (DXI7286-2) and I for some reason the main handset has no sound. The second handset is working fine and both are being read by the chargers. Both ring when a call comes in and I can answer the call but if I answer on the main handset I cant hear the person even though they can hear me. It sounds like it never connected even though it did. Also it dials out just fine even though there is no dial tone and I cant hear any ringing on the other end; when the person answers on the other end I cant hear anything they are saying. We know this because I called my dads cell while he was right there in our kitchen and his phone rang fine but when he answered I couldnt hear him in my phone. Its not like really low volume or interference or anything....just sounds the same as it does when you put it to your ear without pressing talk. Any ideas? I have already read through the troubleshooting section in the manual and there is nothing in there.

  1. It sounds like the handset "speaker" or "earpiece" has died.

Just as a test to prove the speaker earpiece is dead and not the driver chip, you could try plugging a corded earpiece into the headset jack on the side of the phone (some phones have a headset jack on side, but not all do) and see if any sound comes out of the headset jack earpiece.

    Otherwise, time for a replacement.
