Question:

Help with uninstalling programs?

I'm really scared, my computer keeps shutting itself down with a warning saying that I need to uninstall some programs because they are infecting my computer. Well, I know what the programs are (IE antivirus and Antivirus XP 2008) and I'm trying to uninstall them, but they aren't on the Add/Remove programs list. Is there any other way to uninstall them without using the Add/Remove programs?

  1. If you've got viruses then uninstalling your antivirus probably isnt a good step to take. The messages you're getting although looking real enough are most likely fake - put there by viruses in order to convince you to download more "anti-virus software" that is infact more viruses. Bit complicated but the best thing to do is to go and get a shitload of anti-virus software from reputable vendors like AVG and avira (see links) and they will hopefully get things under control.

  2. this is important. that so called "antivirus 2008" is a virus, you need to go to your drive c:  then navigate to program files. Find the folder for it and attempt to delete it, if it will not delete then open it and delete all the files you can. Any files that won't delete rename to "whatever you want.txt". then restart your pc. after restarting attempt to delete the folder again. now get a free virus scanner like avg or something and do a full system scan. when you have got rid of your viruses re-install internet explorer (only if there is still problems). Now restart. Hope this helps, benjie.

  3. One stop fix, works every time: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

Download, install, update and select Quick Scan

AntiVirus programs will NOT remove these as they are malicious codecs, not viruses and worms that AV definition files search for.

Also useSpybot S&D for added protection:

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems'

No need to go to add/remove or anywhere else, Malwarebytes does it all for you.

  4. Well, the program itself should have an uninstall command once you put your cursor on it..

  5. what you have is a malware program ( antivirus xp 2008)

good god why do people answer questions when they are 100% freaking clueless !

  6. Get EasyCleaner. It is free and very good program. When you install it go to add/remove. It has also a registry cleaner. To learn win secrets visit my website. A link is in my profile

  7. Try downloading the free version of AVG, run the virus scan, and see if the software removes them for you.

Tip:  Viruses are intentionally hard to get rid of.  You won't see them in Add/Remove programs.  You should use some kind of Antivirus software (like AVG) all the time to protect your computer.
