  1. I had the same problem for years! It would come and go. All my doctors told me it was a strain muscle and that lifting weights would strengthen my back would help but they never did and some times made it worst. When I got an X-ray nothing showed up but the pain was still there. So I went to a chiropractor and got an upright MRI which showed the I had slight upper spinal right curvage. X-rays dont pick it up because you are lying down. When you lay down your spine straigtens. I hope this helps and you dont have to suffer for years like I did because upper back pain is rare compared to lower back pain.
