Just right after charge up my video camera and start taping something it shuts off after 30 mins. why is that? According to my camera it's supposed to record up to an hour I think. I let it charge until it stops blinking, so I don't know what's wrong.

  1. Check with the manufacturers support site for your camcorder.

  2. You can probably get an hour's worth of video on the tape, but that doesn't mean the battery's OK.  Does it still have any charge after the camcorder's shut down?  If it's only lasting for 30 mins, and you're not zooming in and out all the time, it sounds like you need a new battery.

  3. It might be something wrong with your battery if you have not taken care of it properly. Is it a second hand camera?

Battery's are fickle and can be effected by changes in temperature (like if you shooting outside or forgot it in your car) or water and sometimes direct sunlight. Or if you have dropped it something may have come loose inside.

The same things may apply to your camera.

If you can get a different battery to try in your camera or try your battery in a different camera.

To extend your shoot time try turning off the camera when you aren't shooting rather then having it on in stand by, and plug it into a power source whenever possible.

If it is an old camera it may be simple wear and tear and if you know the previous two suggestions aren't going to work for you consider looking into a new camera. You can get some decent DV models now for a reasonable price.

    Hope this is helpful :)
