Help with water polo.?

I am 14 and I'm going into my freshman year in high school. I went to soccer tryouts and got cut so I thought I'd try playing water polo due to me not liking other choices for sports. The first practice I'm going to is tomorrow and I have no idea what kind of bathing suit I need and much of how the sport is played. I would also like to know how to prepare for water polo without a pool. If you could answer some of these questions it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The common choice for water polo outfits is a speedo, or if you are not comfortable with that, a jammer. (It's kind of like tight bike shorts)

As for how popular it is, if you go to the East Coast and ask, hardly anyone will know what you are talking about, but on the West Coast, it is far more popular.

And finally, conditioning for it, I would run, do pushups, pullups, situps... Anything that can improve your body in general. Most of the time when you are going to shoot, you have to get your body out of the water, which requires you to tread/eggbeater a foot or two out, and shoot, requiring a lot of body strength.

  2. Turbos are really good waterpolo togs they come in all different patterns from lightning boltz to skullz

Now to prepare for water polo with out a pool . Firstly buy a waterpolo ball make sure its the right gender (women and men play with differnt balls due to weight). So once you have your ball i suggest just practising your throwing . throw the ball against the wall with one hand and then catch it with one hand. alternate hands.

  3. Another thing you can do to get prepared is to practice throwing a ball (basketball if you dont have a water polo ball) against a wall and catching it with one hand. You want to aim for one spot on a wall about 3 feet taller than you and just catch and throw. That will help you get use to throwing and catching with one hand. Water polo is basically like every sport combined so as long as you know how to play hockey/soccer/basketball/swim you should be able to catch on pretty quickly. If you don't live in california then there probably wont be too many cuts, so as long as your a decent swimmer and can handle the ball you should be fine.

    good luck

  4. for suit wise i like turbo suits but they can be a llittle expensive. so any suit that zips up and the back would be fine

for training just do some running sprints push ups and sit up really anything to do with training you core would be fine
