Need help with wiring fan/light control switch in a new house?

I am attempting to install a fan/light switch for the ceiling fan (it allows you to dim the lights or turn them off & to turn on the fan on,high, med, low, off). There are 4 wires on the device. 1 black with white stripe, one solid black, one green with yellow stripe and one blue. There are SEVEN wires in the wall. Three white, three black and one copper ground. I am supposed to attach the green wire to the ground. The three white wires seem useless so I capped them off together. The three black wires that are left have no defining marks so I have no idea which is which! How can I tell which wire does what? The black/white wire from the device is supposed to connect to the wall's "AC IN L" wire. The solid black wire from the device is supposed to connect to the wall's black "FAN" wire and the device's blue wire is supposed to connect to the wall's blue wire (which it DOESN'T have)Can anyone tell me how to wire this thing!? It's Harbor Breeze Universal Ceiling Fan & Light Control (130622)

  1. the color of the wire means nothing unless that last guys followed the rules

you need a meter to tell what wire is what

  2. I strongly suggest you hire an electrician.

The device:  Black is your AC line in (United States standard).  White is AC neutral.  Blue is for the light kit.  Green is bond.  With this set up, you can't control the fan speed from the wall switch unless you get inside the fan the wires from the wall directly into the fan speed control wires (remove the fan speed switch).

The seven wires in the wall.  Three black wires are for fan speed.  You'll need to select one white wire (color it with red tape) for the lighting.  Select one white wire for the return for the fan speed and lights.  You'll also need to select a white wire (color it with green tape) for the bond.
