Ok So I have my entire 1999 Honda Civic ripped apart and the aftermarket speakers out ready to put in a nice Polk 6 1/2" component system and 6x9s...However the adapter that plugs into the old speakers has 4 wires. 2 of them are red with a green stripe and the other 2 are brown with a black stripe...

Are the red ones the positive ones and should I just run up to circuit city and get the speaker adapters so I don't have to deal with splicing and all that?

Thanks

  1. the red and green wires are the positives and the brown and black are the negatives

go for the slicing and all that it'll save you money sounds the same and if you ever need to remove the speakers it'll be simple

  2. well, i don't use the adaptors....i splice. doing this also allows you to see whats + and -.

if you were to cut the wire and leave about an inch on the plug, and leave the plug on the factory speaker, strip the ends and touch a 9v battery to it. the speaker will move outwards when you have the + and - of the 9v to the + and - of the speaker.
