It takes place in an enchanted city inside of a bomb shelter which completely lacks negative thoughts and actions including the physical process of aging and death (and thoughts of death, existence, and the afterlife). A large unit of child playmates on an exploration mission find a tunnel which leads outside the boundaries of their land. Upon leaving the shelter through this tunnel the children start to feel the effects of dramatic real-life as aging and programmed feelings occur. While the outside world seems fun at first with feelings of love, excitement, and pure-wonder flowing through them with meeting an old woman--who had come to the bomb shelter to escape war and had found that although she was too big to fit into the tunnel she could still feel the magic and happiness from the city that kept her away from her deathbed--and her stories of the terrible war that happens far from the area they reside, they begin to feel hate and horror as they find their families cut their bonds by filling the tunnel in, and they are forced now to deal with their new mortality.
