Help with wwii german war vocabulary?

i was watching a wwii movie about some germans in a submarine and whenever they fired a torpedo they said a word that souned like"loshe." whenever i translate fire into german in an online translator it comes up with feuer. so what is the correct spelling and meaning of the word that sounds like loshe?

"Feuer frei" (open fire) is the command to fire cannons, rifles etc.

I think this translates to "loose" ( as in to turn loose). Feuer is the word for fire (like at the end of a candle).
