Question:

Help with yeast infections?

Since my hubby and I have been together for the past two years I have experienced a yeast infection every 6-12 weeks. The doc checks me and it is yeast and prescribes something every time. I bathe daily and eat yogurt every day. Is there such a thing as a male being a carrier for yeast and not have the symptoms himself? I'm tired of being in discomfort all the time and don't know which direction to take next.

This link may be helpful.  Yeast infections are tricky to rid of, especially for women who are prone to getting them frequently.  There are a few things you can alter in your lifestyle that have been proven to work.

Manage Stress - Easier said than done, right?  When your body is over stressed, your immune system endures quite a bit of changes.  Hormones and your natural ability to fight infections are out of control.  Try to incororate exercize and relaxation into your life every day, even if it's for 20 mins.

Contraceptive use - There are a variety of birth control pills that have all sorts of different hormone levels in them that can alter the pH and normal bacterial levels in your v****a.  Try to get the lowest hormone level possible if you are using the pill or go off the pill and try other methods.

Diet - a change in diet or a diet high in sugar, beer, starches, yeast, and caffeiene can all lead to yeast infections.  Yeast is in the fungi family.  Coincidentally, yeast is present in a lot of foods.  Try avoiding these foods and bring more fruits and vegetables into the diet to help boost your immune system.

Excessively tight clothing - Wear clothing that will allow your vaginal area to breathe.  Cotton underwear helps, avoid weathing thongs daily.  Also, try sleeping naked when it's too hot out.

Overwashing or douching - You don't want to deplete your normal bacterial in the v****a by douching.  Douching should never be used.....ever.  The v****a cleanes itself.  If you have an "odor" there is more than likely something else going on.

Sexual transmission - this is very rare....but can happen.  The link above desribes this more in detail.

Try a vaginal pH balancer like repHresh.  Use it once a week to mainting an acidic vaginal environment.  Most importantly, when you have an active yeast infection, avoid sexual intercourse (if you are not already doing that).  This would be the time that your hubby could become infected.

    Hope this helps!

  2. The other responder was right on with their answer. Stay away from sugar, yeast thrives on sugar, not just refined sugar. I was told by a specialist that even if your husband is drinking sodas he can be a contributor to it, it's in the s***n. You're going to have to be a detective.
