1) The carpenter in the figure below saws a board into two pieces. He wants one piece to be 1 foot longer than twice the length of the shorter piece. Find the length of each piece if y = 19.

2) Find the midpoint of the line segment PQ.

P(5, 8), Q(4, 12)

3) True or False:

The points (4, 8), (0, 7), and (4, 6) lie on the following line:

y=1/4 x 7

4) Use point-slope form to determine the equation of the line passing through the two given points. Then write the equation in slope-intercept form.

(8,5), (9,8)

5) Determine the equation of the line that passes through the point (1,5) and is parallel to the line 8 y - 72 x = 9.

in slope intercept form

6) Simplify the expression (5y to the 5th power m -3rd power) to the 3rd power

7) True or false?

The number 566000000 in scientific notation is

0.566 x 10 to the 9th power

8) Evaluate the polynomial function.

f (x) = 3 x 2 - 2 x 5 for x = -2

9) Do the subtraction.

(4 x 5 y 4 3 x y - 9 y 4 ) - (2 x 5 y 4 - 10 xy 7 y 4 )

10) Find the product.

(3 x - 4)(2 x 5)

Please... any answer or explanation would help! to any of the problesm above Thanks!!

  1. Try the mathematics section, not the music player section.

Anyway the book should show examples on the type of question your doing. Asking us to do your homework will help you now but not in the long run when you need it most.

  2. Im not gonna do your homework for you but you can just look up how to do them in the book. Its really not that hard.

  3. 2)   [(x_1 + x_2)/2 , (y_1 + y_2)/2]  <---- midpoint formula.

    So, [(5 + 4)/2 , (8 + 12)/2]

So the answer is (4.5, 10)

    7)  TRUE

  4. all I can tell you is that number 7 is false.

  5. 1) Maybe the figure might help.

    2) midpoint formula:  x_mid=(x1+x2)/2, y_mid=(y1+y2)/2

    3) plug in the x value into the equation, do the math, and see what you get for y.  Not that hard.

    4)  Determine the slope.  m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1).  plug the given points into y=mx+b to solve for b.

5)put the equation given into slope intercept form, y=mx+b.  m=the slope.  Since your line is parallel, it will have the same slope.  Plug in the ordered pair to solve for b.

    6) ??  is it (5y)^3 or 5y^3  is there a plus in there or is it all multiplied together

Use order of operations, and you'll be fine

    7) count the place values.

8)substitute -2 for x , and do the math.  Not Hard.

9)Group variables to the same powers and combinations of x any y.  for example all terms with only x add together will only other terms that have only x in them

10 ) FOIL  First terms multiplied together + outside terms multiplied together + Inside terms multiplied together + last terms multiplied together.
