Can anyone help me on a thesis topic concerning unemployment? I want to focus on the job and skills mismatch but I am still open for other suggestions. I can;t think of a definite problem for this topic.

  1. If you're studying for a PhD, the first part is deciding what you're going to research into. It's perfectly normal not to know your research topic when you start out (at least here in the UK). It can take a year to decide.

Your supervisor can help you narrow your search. Basically you should be looking for a well-defined question to answer. Once you have that question you can break it down into sub-questions. They can be the basis of your thesis chapters.

    Good luck!

  2. In the 1970's I was a researcher in the State of Oregon Educational Coordinating Council for a couple years.  One of my assignments was to estimate enrollment in post secondary schools.  There was a strong correlation between enrollment levels and unemployment.  Perhaps something about that relationship would be an interesting topic.
