I'm expecting my first baby in 2 weeks and I'm wondering if there is anything that I absolutely must know..I know I'm never going to be prepared and I'm not worried about that. I'm just wondering if there is anything that you went through that you wished you could have known better to expect. Any helpful tips or things to completely avoid in your opinion. I'm really curious, any suggestions??

  1. A few things I have learned.

    * Sleep when baby sleeps.

    * Never put a baby on their stomach

    * Lay baby on their side, switch sides to prevent flat head.

    * Enjoy your time with your baby, THEY GROW UP SOOOO FAST!!

    * If you can get help take it !!!

Good luck!! And congrats on your baby .

  2. I had my 1st baby 7 weeks ago. I wish someone would have told me more about different kinds of baby bottles. I was expecting to breastfeed, but I had problems with delivery& couldn't do it because of medicines. I gave her formula in a regular baby bottle because I didn't know any better. She had lots of problems with gas & would start randomly screaming & turning red. I didn't know what to do & my doctor wasn't helpful. She just said "it's gas". I tried the Playtex Drop Ins bottles & they work sooo well!  Also, don't try to "memorize" any books or anything because every child is different.

  3. if the baby ever becomes constipated use baby glisrine or warm water w/ jarred prunes (i learned this one the hard way)

    good luck

  4. Everyone spends all of their time making sure that the baby is well prepared for...the nursery, diapers, bottles, etc...

I breastfed my baby and I WISH that someone would have told me about nursing clothes and especially the SLEEPER BRA.  What comfort it was to find out that I don't have to lift off everything and take bra off as well.  I slept wonderful without wires tugging at me.

    Good Luck!

  5. If it is a boy and you are getting them cicumsized have plenty of A&D cream it is the gold one.  Lots of diapers and a pad for under the baby when they sleep to catch any x-cess poopies is always a good idea and have lots of them too.  Remember if you choose not to breastfeed generally after a week or so you can't go back and change your mind, you can always stop but you can't go back and start the milk after you opted not to for however long.

  6. one thing i didn't know was that the bottles had different sized flow.  make sure you get the right size to prevent colic.  also the night time baths and night time lotion help a lot.  gl and congrats

  7. Things I learned:

    1.  It is OK to send the baby to the nursery after the birth so you can get some rest (they do tests and stuff anyway)

    2.  Breastfeeding is HARD...it takes patience and sometimes doesn't work out (we tried and my daughter was a lazy eater, I am an exclusive pumper and she is 5 1/2 mo old now)

    3.  You will be surprised at how fast time goes

    4.  Sleep when you can

    5.  Don't feel bad about calling the doctor after hours with a question...you are the mom and know your baby better than anyone else.

    6.  Listen to your husband/boyfriend/sig other, they can have some good insight when you are tired/frustrated

    7.  Make time for yourself, it is at a minimum!

    8.  Visitors could care less about how kept up your house is, they may even help!

    Good luck to you...

  8. Make sure that you put your baby to bed awake but sleepy, so they learn to go to sleep on their own.
