Well there are a number of good books on the subject of hat-making. Try going to your local library and ask the librarian, they will track them down for you.

A lot of hats used to be made in Stockport in Cheshire, I don't know if they have a museum or some sort of archive but it might be worth looking that up too!

"from the neck up" is a fantastic book that will tell you most of what you need to know.  Many libraries have it, or it'll be available online.

If your teacher gave you the assignment, then it's one of 2 things:

1. You already have class notes or a textbook on the subject and  if you give any other answer it will be obvious you cheated, or

2. The teacher wants you to learn how to do research. If that's the case, you are lucky to live in the internet age! I'll bet the library at school has the resources as well.

Good luck with your homework. It sounds fascinating!
