Helping a teething baby?

My 19 week old girl Ava is starting to teeth, she's consantly chomping on her fists, she dribbling quite a lot and has rosey cheeks!

Her gums have changed as well recently, and everyone says she is teething.

I was just wondering if you could advise how I can soothe my little girl. She can get quite upset, I do have teething gel and the teething 'dummies' and teething rings, but wondered if any of you have used / tried something different or have used a technique that has helped!

With thanks! x

  1. Get some teething tablets. They are all natural & work great.

  2. Hello,

I've got three baby sisters, and my parents

rub a tinsy bit of brandy on their gums.

It works for my sisters, I hope it helps you too. :)

  3. My son was an early teether (had two teeth full in before he was 4 months!) ... and I found that the baby orajel was useless. Mainly because when babies are teething, they drool so much so it more or less just washes that away. The nighttime formula of the orajel seemed to work better though. It got him calmed down enough to go to bed at night.

    Some ideas :

a wet wash cloth put in the freezer for a bit

let her chew on a frozen waffle (just make sure to watch her with this once she gets it all soggy so that she wont choke or anything)

I've heard of people letting their kids chew on cold, raw carrots.

Oh - and my son chewed on the silky part of blankets. (which he still does.. lol .. but he's got four more teeth coming in!! which will give him.. 16 - he's 15 months).

  4. Try getting a washcloth wet and then sticking it in the freezer until it is frozen. It is safe for her to chew on, and it acts as a drool catcher, too.

  5. Babies love to chew when they're teething. Try a cold wet baby washcloth and let her hold it. Or a cool teether. A sugar free popsicle is also good for numbing those gums. Sometimes they hurt. Get her some Orajel if she cries with her teething. It might take a month for her to finally get that tooth in. So make sure you're ready to brush in a little while. You can brush an infants tooth with just a wet washcloth as well.

  6. They have teething tablets that dissolve in the mouth...you put them under the tongue. They seemed to help my son better then the orajel. I would also try freezing a wash cloth as well and let her chew on that. Check out this site...they have mesh teething bags so you can freeze grapes or other fruits and put them in this mesh teething bag...your little one can go to town and you won't have to worry about her chocking on the grape or other fruit. You might feel she is a bit young for the teething bag, but it works great when they are a little older. Check it out...it may work for you. When she is a lot older you can put meat in it..like chicken and steak and she can go to town on that and love it! Good luck with the teething! Hope this helps.

  7. I would put your teething rings in the freezer and freeze them, then give it to her.  Also, I would call her doctor about giving her a small dose of baby tylenol to help with the pain.

  8. Ashton & Parsons Infant Powder is AMAZING it has really helped my daughter since shes been teething (and currently is)...It sooths the gums straight away!!...Calpol or Nurofen (for babies) is excellent too...

    Good Luck!!
