we found 4 baby kittens running around outside. they are eatting solid food but they are underweight. we are worming them tonight because they have fleas so i know they have worms. The littlest one whom we named Dakota is very very tiny. you can feel all her bones. she eats kitten chow mixed with formula like the vet told us to do, but shes still very skinny. we are afraid of loosing her because shes so tiny, at first she was having problems taking a p**p. she still is but shes better. now its jjust runny but the vet said it was from the food. how can we help her put on some weight so we dont end up loosing this little girl whom we have really bonded with and would love to keep.

  1. Do what the vet says.  Just make food available to the kitty.  She won't let herself starve.  Give her cat treats for extra calories if you want, but not too many as that will make her diarrhea worse.

  2. Milk, cheese, chicken

They seem to get fat off of people food and soft cat food.

  3. give them kitten food also kitten biscuits 3 times a day also have clean water out for them good luck with them

  4. forget all the wimpy answers, meat. she will fatten up.

cats are meat eaters. they actually taste meat, like we taste sweet or bitter. they know the difference between the meat in cat food and the hamburger you eat.

    they want the hamburger.

their digestive system is designed for meat.

their whole body is designed to hunt, catch and kill, meat.

we feed them cat food to domesticate them, but meat is great for the sick

feed her beef, poultry or pork. cooked, no seasonings and not over done. cut into very small pieces.

she will attack it like a wild animal at first. it is quite a site. growling, claws dig into the meat, but she will calm down after a few feedings.

once she has put on enough weight, mix meat with cat food, slowly cut back the meat. then only fed meat as a treat.

do not ever let her see where the meat comes from. if she ever sees it come from the fridge or of your plate, she will hunt the fridge.

cats are predators, they learn where the good food is.

either place meat in bowl, then call her, or walk up to her with the meat in hand.

she might be too young to chew meat, in that case, puree it. mince it. mix it with formula

make her a meat and kitty formula shake.

  5. You should take them to the vet and ask, but in the meantime, do this.

Feed them a high quality kitten wet food- Wellness or Solid Gold is good.  Purina is a good enough kitten food, along with Iams.

Feed them twice or three times a day as much as they will eat in twenty minutes.

Call the vet today and ask when you can get them in.  Preferably, as soon as possible.

Also, during the time that they are this age, it is important to touch them and love them as much as possible if you want them to grow up to be healthy, lovey adults.  Please do not declaw:

    www.declawing.com

    Please spay and neuter.

    Please keep them indoors.

    Please microchip.

All of these steps will help you stay with your kitty as long as possible.

Talk to the vet about de-worming medications and flea medication.

Good luck with the little ones!!!

  6. let them free feed dry food always and three times a day give them wet food it should help

  7. Science Diet makes a food just for that purpose. You can buy it at your vet or the pet store. Take some wet food, mix it with the dry food and give it to her. She should be able to eat dry food by this age. She needs to be taken off the formula, it will give her the runs.

  8. I'm not sure what it's called, but there is a protein paste specifically designed to help small kittens gain weight. You can probably get it at petco or petsmart, or you could ask your vet about it. I've never had to use it, but I know it's out there.

  9. Ask your vet for some a/d tinned cat food. It's specially formulated for kittens and is high calorie, it's easy to digest too. If you can get hold of some nutri-plus gel too, a couple of blobs straight in the mouth will give kitty extra nutrients. Keep a close eye on the diahorrea, though, because kitten can become dehydrated quickly

  10. first of all u need to de-worm them....second try esbilac is a dry formula you  can mix for puppies and kittens.. mix with warm water in a bottle . third, you can get a warm wash clothes (soak it in warm water) and penetrate the private area with the cloth....it will help  relax them and have a bowl movement...

  11. Are you using kitten formula to mix with the food?  You can also give it to them straight in a shallow dish to lap up.  It is very rich and some extra helpings of that will help get her weight up.  Make sure not to offer them cows milk (that will make the diarrhea worse).

Oatmeal thinned with the kitten formula is a good choice too.

Are you giving canned kitten food along with the dry?
