i am in love with dogs, since my parents will not allow me to foster anymore dogs, i want to find another way to help animals (i do volunteer at my local shelter). my idea was to start a website in which playing games or simply just clicking something will raise money. with this money i want to give it to shelters who need it for medical care or to expand their facilities, or even to save a dog that has limited time. i need some help on how to start this site or any advice anyone may have? thank you very much, anything is appreciated.

  1. Unless you're willing to recruit sponsors to provide the monies for the dog charities, and willing to set up and track all the hassle of maintaining a "charity" website, better stick to local help and volunteering, and local projects to raise monies for local shelters. Going World wide on the web is a job for major organizations, not individuals. Kudos to you for your enthusiasm and committment, however, It speaks highly of you. Keep doing what you can

    !

  2. Those are very good ideas! If it is, let's say, a Rottweiler getting put to sleep, contact a breed rescue for that specific breed. If it is a mutt, contact a a No-Kill shelter. I love dogs too, and I hate High-Kill Shelters. :(

  3. I think it's best to just pick a local animal shelter and work with them to do this. Ask for their brochures and pamphlets and instead of designing another website refer donors to the shelter's website. Maybe you can ask the shelter to make a blog page for you there and you can blog about the different dogs that need help, etc.

The reason I'm advising against a website is that, you're pretty new and your website will cause alot of hesitation whereas the shelter won't. They'll be sending the money directly in the shelter's name and will trust more. Essentially it'll help you reach your goals better.

Definitely look into a blog page on the specific animal shelter's website.

    All the best.

  4. I have to agree about not starting your own site - for the same reasons.  I run a small private shelter and although money is crucial, what we need is more volunteers.  Not to clean kennels or cat pans, but to play with and socialize the animals. Or helping out at adoption drives (PetSmart, etc.)

You can find shelters close to you by doing a google search or on petfinder.com.  Contact them and find out what they need.  Sometimes it's as simple as picking up food/supplies at a donor site and delivering to their door.

Working closely with a few local shelters will help you fulfill your desire to be close to the animals, plus will help the shelter by not having to hire staff.

Kudos to you for having a heart for the shelter pets!!
