5(6-1)-4X6divided by 3

5x5-4x6divided by3

21x6divided by3

126divided by 3 I came up with 42 but the teach says not right what did I do wrong...

  1. That is right, the teacher is wrong I just checked it.


  2. Well, it is hard to tell from the way you have written it. But the order of operations is always parentheses first, then multiplication/division and then addition subtraction.

    If the 5(6-1)-4x6 is all divided by 3, you would do 6-1= 5 x 5 = 24.

    4x6 = 24. 25-24 = 1 and then divide that by 3.

    The answer will depend on where that division sign is. If it is just under the second half, then it would be 25 - 24/3 = 17.
