I can see signs of spring around my yard, and this year I am planning on turning my boring backyard into a wildlife haven. I have taken out some books on turning your backyard into a wildlife friendly yard, but I would like to know what I can be doing now. I live in zone 6/7-on long Island. I built a pond last year-so if theres anything you recommend with that then its very welcome.

  4. try and plant as many natural plant species that you can in your yard but try and get them from a nursery not digging them up from the wild.Mountain ash trees are good they provide a orange berries for migrating birds to feed on and flowering crab-apple trees, coniferous trees are good provide winter cover for birds spruces, annual sunflowers provide seeds for birds, bee balm flower for bees and hummingbirds,black-eyed Susan's flowers seeds for birds in winter to feed on, for the pond you may get natural migration of frogs and dragon flies into it you could always go to a local pond with a dip net a few scoops into a bucket and release into your pond what you caught.Or contact a local naturalist club and see what they would recommend for you.Build a purple martin bird house, sounds like you have good trees think about the mountain ash for migrating birds or over wintering birds
