Question:

Helping out at stables?

Hey

I wanna start working at a stables in Leicester

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I should go?

Also, I'm 13, is this old enough to work at stables? Or do I have to be older?

I want to learn how to look after horses better than I do already,, as I would love to short-term loan a horse.

Or is there lessons on horse care I could go to?

Finally,, does anyone have any useful links/sites/books etc I could find useful?

Much love Emma-Jane <3 x

  1. best u could do is , starting to work in any stud , but now the season is getting quiet , to be honest you are a bit young but if you really love it , people will see it , try in pony club as well , i never heard of any horse care lesson , the best way to learn is to work out in stables , but having your own horse is goin to take you loads of time , think about it for a while , wat bout if the horse get sick ? i'd say u should go for it , and put ur heart in wat u do , did u ever work with horses ???

  2. hey !

ya.. a lot of stables will let 13 yr olds in because a lot of older kids/ adults dont have time.. it was perfect for me because i HATED to babysit. you learn so much and have so much fun at the stalls.below is some "basic horse info" that you can get caught up on... http://www.acreageequines.com/HorseCare/

if you take regular horse lessons they will teach you horse care as well.. also when you are at lessons always ask questions.. when you go to do the job the first day the ppl don't expect you to know everything.. so they usually will run you through things that you need to do ( which goes with that horse care thing )

i don't live where you do so i cant help with that.. but just start by asking neighbors with horses.. you'd be surprised.. alot of times they'll pay pretty good to have someone do a little down and dirty horse work. here are some more sites to check out.

also.. try to watch "RFDTV" it has a bunch of horse info that is very helpful... have fun!
