Help!?nursing rat mother?

is it ok to feed them cat food? i have heard that feeding dog food is recomend but i don't have any can cat food work?

  1. It'll probably be ok for a nursing mother. The reason why dog food is recommended over cat food is that cat food is too high in fat and protein for rats (or dogs). But a nursing mother might need the extra boost in her diet. Just make sure to go out and get some dog food for later.


  2. It would be better if they have rat lab blocks or critter cubes, but in a pinch cat and dog food will work. I prefer any heathy food you can eat except cabbage and chocolate for my 17 rats. A good seed mix such as parrot food is good in a pinch too.

    Rats eat everything humans eat but then again they should have extra when they have babies. Don't forget the water, she should be drinking double the amount she normally does.
