  1. yeah, my golden retriever is like that also, except she will catch birds and when she's done playing with them she rolls in them. dogs love to roll in smelly things. i think it might be to mark their territory in some odd way, but not totally sure. i just wanted you to know you are not alone. my sisters lab would also go up to the barn and roll in horse p**p...sooo yeah...yer dog is just as normal as all the rest.

  2. Dogs will often roll in smelly areas, for a number of reasons.  Basically, if you are off of your own property, your dog should be on leash - it is the safest thing for your own dog, and will also make sure they don't get into trouble.

  3. im not sure why dogs do this.

well just keep her on a leash appropriate for her size while out in public.

  4. It's normal

    Like a cat scent marking

    Please learn how to spell

  5. Do you walk your dog very often? When they get bored they do weird things. My 3 years old chihuahua used to play with her own poo. I came home and saw poo everywhere. So I do a lot of researches online and found out maybe because she didn't have enough exercise. I put her in the crate when I left home (usually about 4 hours) in the first few months. And I took her out for a walk almost everyday. Now there are no more surprise!

I read lots dog care tips from iblogpet.com. This article talks about how to house train your dog when away. Take a look. Hope this is helpful.

  6. dogs are weird, they do weird things, my beagle would escape our yard every day and find oil to roll in until we moved, only thing i can suggest is to not let them off the lead or a distraction like fetch or something while they are off it

  7. I'd try Pineapple or Pumpkin they're supposed to stop dogs from eating their poo because it makes it smell really bad to them, so it might make your Westie change her mind about rolling around in her poo, because it won't smell appealing to her anymore.

-Add two to four tablespoons of canned pumpkin to the food bowl each day. Pumpkin apparently tastes good in food, but repugnant when expelled in excrement.

-Add a spoon (teaspoon or tablespoon depending on the dog's size) of canned pineapple, pineapple juice or spinach to the dog's food.

My dog has rolled in the grossest stuff before, I think its just a dog thing, she has rolled in deer p**p, a big nasty rotten mushroom in the woods, and even fish guts before, It's hard to stop her when shes off leash.

  8. Her behavior isn't really "odd."  Most dogs like to roll around in grass, mud, other dog poo, whatever.

Try only letting her off-lead in a doggie park where there is a set area where owners are supposed to let their dogs poo, so you can avoid the poo.  Otherwise, I'd only recommend letting her off-lead in an enclosed back yard.

  9. Actually, this behavior is not as 'odd' as you think. It is a simple display of one of those old instincts that dog's still have in their brains. Wild Candis would often roll in fecal matter, urine, or a kill  to 'show' other dogs through smell where they'd been and who/what they'd encountered. Sometimes wolves roll in certain neutral smells (such as autumn leaves or something else organic) to mask their scents from prey or to get rid of some other smell they have on themselves.

Hope this helped, but understand the dog is doing this out of instinct and it should not be treated as a bad behavior =] just eliminate the opportunity if it continues.

  10. I don't care if she's 29, a hermaphrodite and on the pill - she shouldn't be off line in public, it's dangerous.

Keep her on leash, that solves your problem with the rolling in p**p too.  Yes, it's normal enough, dogs roll in anything smelly if they can --- you keep them safe on leash.
