We have had our budgie for two years & up to this last week she was lively & made a lot of noise. After a big moult, she has gone very quiet & is not eating or drinking much, but a little.

Trouble is the last time I had to take a bird to the vet, they gave it an injection & it died immediatly. So I am not going to do tat again !!(!To be fair to the vet, he did warn me it could happen if he gave a jab.)

Any ideas anyone ????

  1. get it a mate...it's bad enough being cooped up in a cage..let alone being stuck in there alone...poor thing!!

  2. Usually the shock of the jab can stress a budgie out and i will die any way but i think that the moult has a big part on what you are talking about.

Please don't take my advise as law i may be wrong.

rarely known to you and i but when a bird molts it hurts as new feathers push through the skin its uncomfortable and causes the bird to be quiet and out of sorts but once the new feathers are in it should return to normal.

  3. keep her warm, you could use a spot light bulb / heat bulb shinning on her. try some cod liver oil mixed up in her seed. as well as "treacle water" -  for a small water drinker put 2 or 3 drips of treacle in hot water, stir till dissolved and wait to cool down before offering it to the budgie

  4. Wring its neck!

  5. i'm budgie breeder

if u let ur birds out and fly it'll help digestion and excerise

but stuck in any size cage makes them tired but being happy or maybe he/she had enuff waiting to get out

i really recomend u to put ur bird out of the cage approx 3-5days a week with closed doors and windows (unless flywired wont be affected)

    tat will make it happy

one of my budgies died he was 13yrs old honestly

  6. Back to the vets would be your best deal. Keep her warm and draft free. Do not get another bird. You dont need a chain reaction of something bad happening.  As long as she is eating and drinking something she should be ok. Molting at times can be very stressful for some birds. Offer her some good nutritional food. They love corn, peas, brocolli, egg, rice, and dry unsweetened cereals.

  7. Go to another vet and get a second opinion.

  8. Do u let her out to fly around a bit. Is she lonely do u think. R u giving her enough attention!

Take her out of her cage for a bit, try and let her fly around if u can in the house. Make sure u r giving her all her vits.

Yeh I think its better to a get a Vets advice.

    Phone them.

  9. Birds do not show that they are ill until they are very ill.  The previous bird probably would have died anyway.  You need to take this one to the vet.  What are its living conditions?  What kind of diet have you fed it?

  10. are you able to handle the bird? it's worth checking the beak isn't needing a clip, this can stop them from eating properly, also, check there is no obstruction in the mouth etc. can you change the feed? try something mashed like layers pellets, put a bit of water with them and mash them. Put the cage out in the fresh air on a nice day so he can tweet with other birds. I hope he gets better, maybe he wants a mate....

  11. I would much rather take my bird to the Vet than listen to anyone on Yahoo answers!

  12. there is a liquid anti biotic that you can mix in the water be sure to keep her out of any drafts

  13. Birds who are very attached to their humans can become depressed and quiet very easily. Is she getting as much attention as usual? If so, try adding some vitamins to her water to improve her mood, or give her some millet...my birds loved that stuff!
