  1. If you have a problem such as a sick child in a city you probably don"t know alot of people but in a small town  if you hold a dinner to raise money the whole town shows up to support you. Just an example besides less traffic, quieter ect.

  2. I've lived in cities (Oklahoma City, Denver), out in the country, and in an assortment of small towns.

First, no matter where you live, you bring most of your problems with you, and most of your solutions.  Environment is only part of being happy.  the bigger part is knowing yourself and being comfortable with how you live that life, what you contribute, etc.

Cities provide material advantages.  You can find what you want, and often when you want it, with less planning.  Entertainment options are more plentiful and easily availble.

Small towns require a bit more planning, but you can get your needs met there too.  One of the advantages is finding that what you wanted may not be as important as you thought.  If it isn't worth the hassle of tracking it down, how important was it in the first place?

As far as society or social interactions, that's rather place specific.  I've been in small towns that were open, friendly, and inclusive, like the one where I live now.  I've also been in small towns that were mostly closed, suspicious, and exclusive.  But then, that goes for your social circles in cities, too.  It's been my experience that I have a small circle of friends and a larger circle of acquaintances.  No matter where I've lived, that circle has been about the same, and I've developed about the same number of friendly acquaintances.  I'm not sure why.  Just having more people available doesn't result in my feeling more connected or feeling as if I actually know more people.

In every situation, you have a chance of meeting "big frogs in small ponds."  In the city, for me it was usually someone in work environment who liked to throw his weight around.  In small towns, it could be in the school systems, the local major employers, or even the guy who owned the only restaurants and thus overestimated his importance in the universe.

We choose to live in a small town -  Advantages:  ease of becoming familiar with physical surroundings, quick and ready access to nature at the edge of town, lack of congestion, quick commute to work , excellent schools, ready availability to local officials in the event of a problem

My husband can walk to work.  I walk my son to school.  There is no place in town that is more than a 7 mile drive, which translates to "any place in town in 15 minutes."  This town is very well laid out and practical.  We recognize faces around town and feel at home fairly quickly.

I have never felt unsafe here.

  3. You know everybody- there is always someone to help.

  4. You can recognise everyone and LESS TRAFFIC! woo lol. Personally, i think it's more friendly.

Hope this is enough help! (:

  5. Peace and quiet.

    Know your neighbours.

    More support from town.

No busy busy traffic or city life or hectic lifestyle.

    More community involvement.

    Great Friends.

    More time spent on family.

    Housing and rent is cheaper.

  6. Less traffic

Fewer people = fewer opportunities for crime

Generally more quiet than larger cities

    Air can often be cleaner

Often property prices in rural areas are lower

Fewer people = more personal service at local stores

    Less traffic

    Just to name a few...

  7. A small town does not have less pollution!  I live in a small town with several of the largest AMD sites in the state!  The kids here have never know the stream water to be clear, they thought it was supposed to be orange.  There are advantages in a small town, but I have tosay, after raising 5 kids here, that the advantages are for the adults raising kids.  I was able to relax and let them be outside and play without worrying about who lived next door, everyone knows everything about everyone else in small towns.  And anything you don't know is found out at the local barber shop, gas station, or post office.  The ability to take long hikes in the woods would be another, most cities don't have large areas of state game lands within walking distance.  But for culture and the arts, a small town is at a tremendous disadvantage! Once the kids get to the teen years, it gets very boring for them, they feel out of touch with the rest of the world, and many turn to alchohol and drugs for entertainment.  Many don't but many do.  It's all a matter of what you want out of life.

i've enjoyed the small town because nothing changes, and after a life of nothing but changes, I like that!

  8. What advantages? Aside from the fact that it's easy to find the way out.

  9. you know everybody.

    less drama-less people.

  10. as it is a small town it has less pollution. besides u know most of the people.
