Help!!!vision question!!?

i have this friend who says he has really bad vision he says its a "5"!!!

how bad is that???? will he need surgery???!!!??please help i want to know!!

-5.00 may seem scary because you would not be able to see the largest letter on the letter chart without your glasses!

But be assured that "-5.00" is still considered to be moderate myopia.

-6.00 id the lower limit for high myopia.

I would not recommend surgery at this point.

A - 5.00 is at the higher end of moderate myopia....many wear corrective lenses MUCH stronger that that.

That in no way means he will need surgery , but he may elect to get lasik when he gets to his mid 20's and his vision stops changing for a couple of years.

Yeah, that's kind of bad.  It's the contacts prescription -5.0, and that's very nearsighted.  He can't see without his glasses really at all.  What do you mean will he need surgery?  You might not get it.  Nobody needs surgery.  You can go on for the rest of your life wearing corrective lenses like glasses or contacts, obviously.  He can get surgery if he wants to, though and it might be in his best interests if he's only a teenager like you.
