  1. boeing in washington? i live there lol i got to take a tour there

  2. Biggest: not available. There were some issues with wiring recently that suggested a 787 might be hackable. Otherwise it's largely a far-updated version of some of the middle ranged Boeing aircraft, and is largely being designed to be more comfortable without being extravagant, like the A380.

Technically though one shouldn't compare the 787 to the A380; they're in different categories. The direct A380 competitor is the Boeing 747-8, which updates the 747 with the 787's new technology.

    Disadvantages:

    1) Ability to switch engines is marketed as taking 1 day, but will likely take up to or over 15 days.

    2) The fuselage is made largely of carbon fiber materials, which many are concerned is too untested to be put into large scale production. It also doesn't show cracks as easily as metal, worrying some that it will be harder to repair. This also potentially weakens the plane to lightning strikes.

    3) Delayed and unavailable.

    4) Smaller than the A380, yet will largely be in competition with it along with the 747-400 and the 747-8I.

    5) Most production models now are overweight.

    Stretching:

    1) For all the new technology, it isn't really any faster than any previous planes.

  3. I would say that the first series of planes are going to have plenty of bugs to work out.  The other thing is that with redundant  systems, they are not going to see the weight savings they thought they were going to have.

  4. Other than the fuel efficiency, It's not that over-the-top innovative, fantastic, or luxurious, such as is the new AirBus A380.

The 787 Dreamliner is like a bloated 767 with better fuel efficiency. It only has one flight level as opposed to the 2 full decks of the AirBus A380.

  5. The only disadvantage is it's not available yet.  I think the larger windows will make a big difference to passenger comfort.  The small windows required by old technology were more like portholes with limited visibility.

The 787 is built for point to point travel rather than Hubs required to make the A380 efficient.  If air travel in passenger miles continues to deteriorate the A380 will have lost it's advantage, and the 787 can easily pickup the lesser demand more efficiently.

  6. not many.

but unlike the A380 Boeing will hopefully not run into such major delays in delivery, seeing that FedEx canceled their order and went and bought some 777s.

IM not saying the current production delays for the 787 are more acceptable, its just that airbus took so much longer than the projected delivery of the 787 which is a superior product in todays fuel sensitive marketplace, plus there are no special handling problems with the 787 like you have with the massive A380.
