  1. First thing you need to do is to remove the nest. Contrary to popular belief they don't have to have a nest to sleep in at night. That is a line that the pet shops use to sell expensive nest. Get some plain canary seed. Feed only canary seed for a couple of weeks maybe three. Put her in a room in the house where she will only get 12 hours of light a day. Pull the ?male? out and put him in a separate cage.

By feeding only canary seed the diet will be very bland and lacking the nutrients that they need to be in breeding condition. Good and plentiful food is one of the triggers for breeding condition. In some species of birds light also plays a role that is why you want to take the light to 12 hours. That is the amount of light they get in the winter time.

Putting them in separate cages will keep the little horn dog from singing and being cute for the female. His diet needs to be bland also. Only put one level teaspoon of seed per bird, per day. You need to give them  some kale, mustard, endive or dandelion greens to eat every day while on the this bland diet. This should back them out of breeding condition.

Lots of people give their birds more types of fruits and veggies this time of the year. (Enriching their diet) That along with a nest, longer daylight hours and a male singing to her she can't resist the temptation to breed and rear some babies.

What do you think is going to happen when you put a nest in/on a cage? It is like putting two love struck teenagers in a dark room with a couch. They ain't going to discuss economics.

Now if this doesn't work get a needle and thread and sew her...............NOT!

    Just a little humor :-)

  2. haha. what a delema... not. just take the eggs outif you want a few keep em. take the new ones last though. the others may be fertilized. look throught them with a flashlight. also separate the finches if you arent ready for more eggs.

  3. My sister has them and they will never stop. You have to make it part of your routine to remove eggs from their nest every day, otherwise you will end up with 50 finches like she did.
