  1. In menstruating women, there is a constant loss of blood, reducing the haematocrit. In pre-pubescent girls and post-menopausal women, the reference ranges are the same as men.


  2. I am not entirely sure on this, there are only a couple of answers I can think of that would make sense.  The first of these is testosterone, increased levels of this hormone may actually stimulate the production of more red blood cells.  The second kind of fits in with this.  An erection requires increased blood flow to the p***s, and as such this may require an extra store of red blood cells to send, so as not to deplete other areas of the body.  Again, I can't be entirely sure, but this seems to make sense.
