Hematology/Oncology?

I have a question about hematology and oncology residencies. I want to become a hematologist but I understand that oncology is usually included with that. Does that mean that you need an oncology fellowship along with the hematology? Or does it simply mean that they fellowships are 'fused' together and that some hematologists will deal with cancer situations?

  1. It's the same fellowship.

Heme/onc specialists train to do both things.  You can do more advanced work in fellowship if you want to zero in on a narrower specialty.

  2. The second... Oncologists and Hematologists are specilialists... Don't see why you would need two specialities
