Henderson, £20 million and Liverpool – English Premier League debate
Liverpool’s signing of the 20-year-old, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102, has sparked renewed hopes amongst the red shirts’ fans. They sound optimistic of their club’s showing in the coming season. Given the recent rise in Henderson’s ranks, his purchase adds a lot of strength
and value to Liverpool’s midfield.
Henderson moved to Liverpool from Sunderland for a price tag of £20m (US$32.75m). His signing has been referred as a “long term deal” by the Merseyside club. This is the third major purchase since Kenny Dalglish took over as the club manager for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809
in January earlier this year. The first two were the acquisitions of Andy Carroll and Uruguayan international Luis Suarez.
Henderson has already been touted as the replacement for the ageing-yet-great http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and is relishing the opportunity to play alongside him.
“He is one of the best players in the world, you want to be playing with him and training with him to try and improve yourself as a player,” Henderson had said.
There is an obvious plan on Dalglish’s end to take on young and talented players rather than trying to sign the established stars. Henderson played a key role at Sunderland in the previous two seasons. His international debut with the senior team came in
November last year against the French team.
At first glance, the price tag of £20m might look highly inflated for a player with only a single outing on the green field at the top level. It may have been due to the fact that the bosses at Liverpool feared that the stock price for the player was going
up in the coming weeks and they may have to entangle themselves in a lengthy battle to put ink to paper with Henderson.
Jordan Henderson perfectly fits the plan that Dalglish and Comolli have laid down. He is young, talented and definitely carries a resale value. More importantly, his age guarantees that the club meets the new home-grown rule, set by the FA, which comes into
effect from August this year.
There is also the void created by the absence of talent at the club. Liverpool signed on too many 19-22 year old international players. This holds true despite the fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Spearing-c18106 are coming of age. Henderson’s
presence will surely look to fill this gap. More importantly for him, Henderson will not be asked to carry the team like he had during his time with Sunderland.
He was called to play for the national team after his performances against Manchester United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City during the last season.
Henderson seems to perform when he is in company of better players. This is a fact that Liverpool fans will relish and look forward to in action.
