Malaysia’s Men’s Singles coach for back up shuttlers, Hendrawan is determined to take the best out of the second stringers who are playing under his charge. He knows that it is time for shuttlers to redouble their efforts in training sessions and perform
well at international level.
All shuttlers in the back-up squad, despite working well for the last one year, are still far behind the top seed Lee Chong Wei in all aspects of the game. They need to improve in every aspect and lift their level to become world class shuttlers.
Hendrawan has accomplished his task to teach all shuttlers the basics of the game, which was mandatory to perform well in any international event. Now it is time to put extra effort in training to become elite shuttler. The coach plans to make the training
sessions hard in the upcoming year to transform the back-up shuttlers into world beaters.
There are a few players in the back up squad who have shown improvement for the last one year. Among these shuttlers are, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Goh Soon Huat, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Misbun Ramdan Misbun. But all these budding players still lack
the impressive touch which is required to establish name at world stage.
The coach is completely unsatisfied with the performance of second stringers so far as he knows there is not much time left for these players to shine at international level.
Hendrawan said, “It has been far from a satisfactory year. There have been improvements but they are minor ones. There are weaknesses which need working on. I’m far from satisfied. As coach, I know I can do better with the players I have. There has been
a change in attitude in training but I expect much more from them.”
He further added, “We will redouble our efforts and everyone will be pushed to the limit. My year of teaching them the basics is over. It’s now time to push them hard.”
However, Hendrawan’s efforts coupled with the hard work and dedication of the shuttlers can bring some good results. The shuttlers need to put more effort in training sessions to get rid of their current mediocre position and to establish their worth in
the arena of badminton.
