Hendrawan wants all shuttlers to remain united and play like a team for desired outcome
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles national coach, Hendrawan, wants all shuttlers in the national squad to remain united and play like a team to achieve the desired outcome in the upcoming Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, which will be held in Macau in February.
Indonesian born Hendrawan, who is also former World Champion, wants to see Malaysian players to deliver their maximum effort and show team spirit which will help them to win the qualifying round and secure their berth in Thomas Cup Final, which will take place at Wuhan, China, in May.
The coach also wants shuttlers to show their confidence and determination in the court and prove their worth by playing top class badminton. Every player in the national squad should take responsibility and perform to his maximum abilities which will definitely earn them good results.
Hendrawan inspires Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, a young shuttler under his supervision, to perform well in the tournament while playing with confidence, no matter who comes on the other side of the net.
Besides Arif Latif, the Malaysian team will have the World Number One Lee Chong Wei, Tan Boon Heong – Koo Kien Keat, Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, Teo Kok Siang – Hoon Thien How, Goh V Shem – Lim Khim Wah and Liew Daren.
Hendrawan wants the national squad to show team spirit in order to give confidence to those shuttlers who are not in their best form at the moment.
He said, “Currently, in Malaysia’s team, the doubles pair of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong are feeling down following recent poor performances. This is the time for the team to support one another and be there for each other. Team spirit can do wonders.”
He further added, “The team event is different from individual events. If we stay united, I’m confident we can prevail to make the Finals. I will continue to share my experiences with the players to instil in them the confidence they need.”
A two-week centralised training camp of national squad will start from Monday. All shuttlers will spend first week in Kuala Lumpur and the second week in Sabah to prepare for the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round.
