Hendrik Feldwehr clinches Men’s 50m breast-stroke gold: Day three – 2011 Dutch Open LC Championships
Hendrik Feldwehr of SG Essen proved his mettle for gold medal by lowering the championships record of Men’s 50m breast-stroke on final session of the 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Championships in Eindhoven on Sunday, December 4th.
Feldwehr displayed his audacity for the top spot of breast-stroke swim by overwhelming the efforts of his competitors in playoff. With his powerful stroke and unmatchable speed, he reached the finishing end with a new championship record timing of 27.82
seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.97 seconds under the previous mark of 28.79 seconds, held by Roy Smeenge from 2011. He also remained 1.15 seconds away from the world mark of 26.67 seconds, set by Cameron van den Burgh of South Africa in 2009 Rome World
Championships.
The gold medallist was trailed by Giacomo Perez Dortona of Team Marseille 2012, who remained 0.27 seconds slower from him and hit the wall with an effort of 28.09 seconds for silver medal.
Dortona remained 0.08 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Lennart Stekelenburg of E.ON-NZA, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal with a timing of 28.17 seconds.
Subsequently, the bronze medallist was chased by Nabil Kebbab of Team Marseille 2012, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 28.61 seconds. Kebbab remained 0.17 seconds ahead of Douglas
Scott of East Kilbride, who ended his swim in a time of 28.78 seconds for fifth position.
The sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Yaron Shagalov of Israel, who was just 0.04 seconds slower than his competitor and concluded his swim in a time of 28.82 seconds.
Pieter Jan de Vries of AZ&PC transpired as the seventh position holder of the event, as he remained 0.27 seconds behind his former finisher and touched the finishing wall in a time of 29.09 seconds.
The session came to an end after the incredible swims of all participants in the breast-stroke discipline. Furthermore, the spectators acknowledged commendable swims of all podium finishers in the single lap breast-stroke event while the winners received
their awards at the medal ceremony of the championship.
