Henlow to host semi-finals of Primus Telecom Puppy Derby on Thursday –Preview
Henlow, the hub of greyhound racing, is all set to host 12 mega races on Thursday, February 02, 2012. A dozen exciting Heats include 11 Grade Open Race (OR) and one Grade A4 race, which will kick off at 19:25 (local time).
Every single competition is likely to produce a lot of thrill and excitement, but the highlight of the day will be three electrifying semi-finals of the Primus Telecom Puppy Derby.
The hounds qualified for the semis after showing outstanding performances in the recent competitions, held last month.
Following are the line-ups for the three high profile semi-finals of the £10,000 event.
1st Semi-final: 1 Droopys Edmond, 2 Bridge Bandit, 3 Millwards Boom, 4 Penrhiw Guto, 5 King Bradley (m), 6 Guinness Dusty (w).
2nd Semi-final: 1 Fifis Legend, 2 Pantone Ava, 3 Smart Bid, 4 Benkaat Blue, 5 Borna Dealer, 6 Guinness Kev (m).
3rd Semi-final: 1 Be Real, 2 Doobys Gone West, 3 Coolavanny Bert, 4 Ballymac Jones, 5 Droopys Stevie, 6 Aero Bellagio (m).
The first semi-final will commence at 20:10 (local time). Despite the fact that all contestants hold the potential to outperform the rest, the real battle will be between Bridge Bandit, and Guinness Dusty. The two hounds have been producing excellent
runs over the past few weeks.
Bridge Bandit, Droopys Kewell’s son out of Balscadden Katie, has three back to back victories under his belt. In the recently-held sixth Heat of the championship, he outclassed the favourite, King Phil, making it to the semi-final.
The dog will enjoy obvious chances, however, Guinness Dusty, holds the ability to spring up a surprise. The blue dog topped the chart in the first Heat of the competition, qualifying to this round.
The remaining four hounds are capable of doing well. However, the centre of attention will be the aforementioned high status duo. In the second semi-final, Fifis Legend, Benkaat Blue, and Borna Dealer are expected to create a lot of nail-biting moments.
Benkaat Blue, the brindle dog, has won four out of his previous five races. In the fourth Heat on January 26, he clinched victory by a handsome margin of 3 ¾ lengths.
His trainer, M Wallis would like to keep the good work going, but Fifis Legend, and Borna Dealer are two huge threats for him. The latter finished second in all four races, he has run so far in his career.
Fifis Legend, Cashen Legend’s son out of Shakira Live, is quite new to the ring, and has run only three races so far. However, considering his recent performances, one can expect him to upset the favourites.
The third and final semi-final will see the favourite, Coolavanny Bert, unleashing his talent on the track. Despite the fact that the black dog has been rated as the most favourite by many experts, it will be an uphill task for him to beat the likes
of Be Real, Droopys Stevie, and Ballymac Jones.
It will be an exciting event, as six rampant hounds are geared up to contest in pursue of a cherished victory. The good performers of the semi-finals will qualify for the high-voltage finale, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 7.
