Hennessey Stuart wins Men’s 200 yard backstroke heats – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Hennessey Stuart of Una DSA-CO won the qualification rounds of Men’s 200 yard backstroke on third day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
Stuart remained prominently ahead of his opponents in the first round of the race and earned his way in the final round as top fastest swimmer.
With his notable efforts in the eight lap discipline, Stuart showed no mercy to his toughest challenger as he reached the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 1 minute and 44.09 seconds.
Stuart was followed by Carter Griffin of Du Hilltoppers-C, who was 0.77 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 44.86 seconds.
Griffin was chased by Aaron Greene of North Texas Nada, who was only an inch behind and occupied third fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 45.00 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by John Manchester of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed 1.08 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 46.08 seconds.
Following that, the audience saw gruelling efforts of William Glass of City of Mobile Swim Club and Zachary Lierley of Mount Pleasant Swim Team, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck race for fifth place.
The duo failed to escape each other over the finishing wall as they remained almost half a body length slower from Manchester and hit the wall with identical efforts of 1 minute and 46.49 seconds for fifth position.
They were followed by Curtis Ogren of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained 0.35 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 46.84 seconds for seventh place.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Sean Lehane of Unattached-IL, who was 0.03 seconds apart and completed his race in a time of 1 minute and 46.87 seconds.
Furthermore, Stuart was contented with his top notch pace and said that he would try hard to obtain the title in playoff.
