Henri Hurskainen casts out Hannes Kaesbauer in Men’s Singles event of 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open
Men’s Singles shuttler Henri Hurskainen had a perfect start in Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold as he cleared first hurdle by stamping Hannes Kaesbauer on October 30, 2012.
This hard fought battle was staged at local badminton arena of Saarbrucken, Germany and it kept both contenders busy on court for 40 minutes before ending with 13-21, 21-11 and 21-14.
The victorious shuttler played with great precision and saved the honour despite of going down in the opening game.
On the other hand, the German campaigner failed to relish the home ground and crowd advantage as he crashed out of this event after facing a 1-2 defeat.
Hannes Kaesbauer, who was unseeded player in this tournament, grabbed all the attentions by clinching first match point on merit.
He laid foundation of his supremacy by prevailing in couple of consecutive rallies in the beginning and enjoyed the upper-hand all the way to the final moments.
Hannes finished first half of the set with a respectable total of 11-6 and then capitalised this initial advantage in second half of the set.
After the interval, he injected more intensity in his attack and widened the gap with 17-9 margin. This deficit proved too much for Henri Hurskainen as he surrendered after reading 13-21 score on the board.
However, he managed to counter-balance the situation by performing exceedingly well in the following game.
The Swedish campaigner did not show any sign of confusion after first set loss and bagged second match point with a significant lead.
This time he played with authoritative approach and got into commanding position with 6-2 total. He did not lose this rhythm and placed a decent figure of 11 before the one-minute break.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Henri as he swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-11.
This development turned the decider into a nerve-racking contest and both contenders strived hard to claim this final match point.
They remained equal until 10-10 but then the Swedish shuttler locked the honour with 21-14 margin.
Now Henri will face Petr Koukal of Czech Republic in second round of this Grand Prix Gold tournament.
