Henri Hurskainen faces a woeful exit from 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold
Sweden’s biggest hope in Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold ended when its prime shuttler Henri Hurskainen bid farewell to the event after losing a pre quarter-final match on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
He knelt down in front of a lower ranked Irish campaigner Scott Evans after reading 18-21 and 21-23 score on the board.
This 34-minute Men’s Singles encounter took place in Saarbrucken, Germany as both contenders kept the audience intact with a mesmerising show of skills.
Though, the badminton critics were giving better odds to Henri Hurskainen but the final result proved all the predictions wrong.
The underrated shuttler Scott Evans performed beyond expectations and stunned his higher ranked opponent.
He laid the foundation of his supremacy immediately in the beginning of the tussle and ruled the court until the last shot was played.
In the opening game, he launched an intensive attack and confined his competitor in the rear court. He bagged many valuable points at a steady pace and placed an indomitable total of 7 in no time.
The Irish shuttler did not lose focus at any stage of the game and reached to a commanding position of 11-4.
There was not much for the opposing player in later part of the game as Scott showed consistency in his performance and swept the table with a notable difference.
At first, he strengthened his grip by registering 17-12 score and then served the notice of his dominance with 21-18 margin.
This loss proved a severe blow for Henri as he could not overcome his rival’s influence in the following game.
Though, he put an honest effort but luck was not on his side. The Swedish player made swift progress and left his competitor far behind with a significant total of 11.
After the mid-game break, Henri made some fatal mistakes which ultimately cost him a crucial match point.
Scott Evans did not miss this opportunity and levelled the score at 19-19. Both contenders put all in their possession to pocket the ending points but the Irish shuttler tipped the scale in his favour with 23-21 margin.
This was the end of Henri’s expedition in 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open and he had to say good bye to this GP Gold tournament.
