Henri Hurskainen surges into semi-finals of the Finnish open 2012 – Badminton News
The Men’s singles shuttler Henri Hurskainen escorted his country to the semi-finals by crushing Vladimir Ivanov of Russia in quarter-final of the Finnish open on March 31, 2012.
The Swedish displayed inspiring badminton skills against his higher ranked opponent and won the epic tussle of 48 minutes with concluding scores of 19-21, 21-17 and 21-15.
Henri, who was the underdog in this event, proved his mettle and reserved his right to be in the top four shuttlers of the event.
Earlier, the talented player Henri remained at the attacking end throughout the quarter-final match and build immense pressure on his rival.
He was little sluggish in the opening set of the match that allowed the Russian to find a good flow and he came in commanding position in first half of the set as Henri could not produce some effective shots.
After the break, both players raised the standard of the game and put up a great fight but Vladimir managed to score game point first and ended opening set with tight yet decisive margin of 21-19.
In the following set, Henri elevated his class and established his authority over Vladimir by scoring some quick points. This time he kept the bird in his control and attacked in the right areas.
The Swedish player Henri came in strong position until the break. After the interval he did not lose focus and maintained a significant lead. He pulled back the match to right balance by clinching second set with a decisive 21-17 score on the board.
Henry used his self-confidence, which he earned from the second set, in the following game and entered on the court in high spirits.
Both competitors snapped each other’s heels in the decider to avoid a woeful exit from the event. They remained close in score position in first half of the set but Henri geared up his pace and established a decent lead in the later part of the game.
He earned 10 points with his dropping net shots which made a huge difference in the cumulative score and he hammered his sixth seed Russian rival with final score of 21-15.
This 2-1 win took him into the semi-finals of the Finnish Open 2012 where he will test his skills against Rajiv Ouseph of England.
