Henrik Stenson and George Coetzee share clubhouse lead at BMW International Open
Henrik Stenson and George Coetzee smashed an aggregate of 10-under-par in the second round of the BMW International Open to surge into the clubhouse lead. The European Tour event, carrying a purse of €2,000,000, is taking place at
the par-70 Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany.
Stenson teed-off from the back in the morning and started the second round in the same fashion as the first round. He bogeyed the opening hole and followed it with a birdie at the par-5, 11th hole. The slow start pressed
the Swede to attack the green more fiercely and without much analysis. The result got revealed minutes later, when Stenson had to sign for the second bogey of the day. In urge to counter the disaster, the veteran fired two birdies and sealed the back with
a score of one-under-par, 35.
On his way to the front, the Swede aced the par-5, sixth for the second time in two days and wrapped the second round with a score of 70.
Clearly disappointed at his performance, the player said while speaking to reporters, “It's never fun to finish with two bogeys, but you gain some, you lose some - sometimes that's the way it is. I am in a good position and I am feeling
very good. I had to fight a little bit early on, but I managed to stay patient.”
Meanwhile, Coetzee proved his loyalty with the number 67 by posting it on his scorecard for the second time in the tournament. The South African chose to tee-off from the back like his co-leader, but managed to produce an impressive
scorecard unlike him. He reeled one eagle, seven birdies and three bogeys in the day. The four-time winner on the Sunshine Tour seemed very confident after his day's play.
“I believe I can win every single event there and the more I get in contention in Europe the more I will believe I should be up there,” said Coetzee.
The 24-year-old is yet to experience a victory on the European Tour. However, with the way he is playing at the moment, it wouldn't be a surprise if he wins his first European Tour event.
