Henrik Stenson leads South African Open by three with one round to go
The Swede, Henrik Stenson is closing in on his first win of the season at South African Open. Stenson currently leads the tournament by three strokes after his three-under par third round.
Henrik carded six birdies and three bogeys on a day where he struggled a little. However, it was smiles for him in the end, as he leads the tournament by a healthy lead after 54 holes.
The day, however, belonged to George Coetzee who shot a course record 63 at the Serengeti Golf Club on Saturday. George came from nowhere and now he is tied at the second place, along with another Swede, Magnus Carlsson.
The 36-year-old is searching for his first title since his victory at the Players Championship in 2009. The way things stand at the moment, the Swede has the perfect chance to end his trophy drought.
"George (Coetzee) was on fire today, so I'll obviously need to watch out," Stenson said. "But the final round is about focusing on your own game and playing well, and what happens happens. I'm focused on playing well ... and winning this championship".
A decent round on Sunday should do the trick for Stenson. All he needs to do is play an error free round and things will turn his way automatically.
Stenson had an excellent finish to his front nine, as he carded three straight birdies. However, his play at the back nine was not very solid. Nevertheless, he somehow battled his way to the end.
A victory on Sunday would mean that the former European Ryder Cup player will bag his first European Tour title since his victory at the WGC Accenture Match Play.
Coetzee had a stunning round of 63, breaking the course record. He shot nine birdies, an eagle but his two bogeys on the two short holes were a major disappointment.
Nonetheless, he is in contention on Sunday and another decent round should definitely make things more interesting.
"It's great to shoot a 63 and I'm very happy, but I have to forget about it as soon as possible," Coetzee said. "I've got to go out tomorrow".
