Henry Carroll wins ‘South Carolina Breeder of the Year’ award
The renowned American horse trainer and breeder, Henry Carroll, walked away with ‘South Carolina Thoroughbred Owners’ and Breeders’ Association’s 2011 Breeder of the Year’ Award on January 21, at the awards ceremony, held at Kershaw County Chamber
of Commerce and Visitors Centre in Camden.
This iconic award was presented to Carroll for the valuable services, he has been offering to the industry for the last two decades.
Carroll has trained and bred many ace horses so far, with Smoke Glacken, Yankee Affair and Fancy Up, at top of the list.
As a result of Carroll’s meticulous training, Smoke Glacken earned 1997 champion sprinter title.

On the other hand, Yankee Affair has won a number of Grade 1 races. Fancy Up also has glaring track record to his credit.
Along with Carroll, two other breeders named as Hamilton Smith and Laurence Stoney Jr. also won SCTOBA awards for the year 2011.
Hamilton Smith breeds, I Suppose, while Laurence Stoney Jr. breeds, Cat o’ Nine Tails. Both horses are three years old.
While addressing to the awards ceremony, the SCTOBA president, Lee Christian, said:

“The association takes great pride in the graduates who have either been bred or trained in South Carolina, and is privileged to be able to honour those horsemen who have put forth great effort into achieving that success.”
As the Retired Racing Hall of Fame jockey, Pat Day, was an honourable guest in the gala function, Christian uttered some rosy words of applause for him.
He commented:
“I think part of the importance of having somebody from the national scene (Pat Day) come to South Carolina is to make them aware that there are things going on in the Thoroughbred industry within the state.”
SCTOBA works to promote thoroughbred industry in the Carolina state. It infuses awareness about the contribution of the industry to the local economy.

The organisation also provides technical training and leadership facilities to the trainers, breeders and racers to help them improvise their business.
Held every year in the month of January, the SCTOBA awards ceremony recognises the services and efforts of the top breeders of Carolina, which becomes a source of motivation for them.
