Henry Domercant leads Unics Kazan past Galatasaray Medical Park 68-64 - Euroleague Recap
On October 27 at Abdiipekci Sports Hall, the Unics Kazan rallied from a third quarter deficit to beat Galatasaray Medical Park 68-64 for their first ever Euroleague win. With this defeat, the Medical Park dropped to 1-1in the season.
Henry Domercant played one of the best games of his Euroleague career and chipped in a game-high 16 points, including 12 in the crucial fourth quarter. Domercant grabbed four rebounds and ended on 6 for 8 shooting from free throw
line. Lynn Greer posted 12 points, dished out four assists and stole the ball twice for Unics.
Luksa Andric led Galatasaray with 14 points, shooting 5 for 7 from two-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds. Joshua Shipp tallied 11 points and grabbed three rebounds while Darius Songaila finished with 10 points and four boards.
The game got off to a slow start with Unics and Galatasaray trying to find their offense early. Both teams could not score for the first two minutes of the opening quarter. Galatasaray however then turned it on and held a 13-5
lead with three minutes to go in the quarter. Unics kept on struggling from the floor allowing Medical Park an 11 points advantage at 21-10. Lynn Greer closed the period on a pair of free throws and cut Unics deficit to nine after 10 minutes.
Kazan mounted a comeback in the second quarter and cut Galatasaray’s lead to four, 21-17, early. Galatasaray however opened a 14-8 stretch in the ensuing minutes and increased their lead to double digits, 35-25, with about a minute
to go in the first half of the game. Unics hit three consecutive free throws in the last minute of the second quarter to trim their deficit to seven at halftime.
In the third quarter, Unics continued to fight back and made it a three-point contest, 47-44, with one minute to go in the quarter. Galatasaray however managed to increase the advantage to five at the end of the third quarter.
They maintained their five-point lead with three minutes to go in the game.
However, Kazan found a good rhythm and reeled off an 8-0 run to go ahead for the first time at 65-62. Jaka Lakovic responded with a pair of free throws which allowed Galatasaray to stay within one point but the star of the night
Domercant hit a brilliant three-pointer at the end to seal the victory for Unics.
