Henry Feels For Barcelona Bound Fabregas
Following Barcelona’s €35 rejected bid for Cesc Fabregas, former Arsenal player Henry has offered advice to the 23 year old. Thierry Henry went through something similar, after either years with the gunners he finally decided it was time to leave. Though his decision wasn’t popular with the Arsenal fans, he said it was time to move on even though he still loved the club. While talking to reporters, Henry said that he hoped Fabregas would stay at Arsenal, even though he understood the youngsters need to want to return to Barcelona.
Henry said he understood that Fabregas has a difficult decision ahead of him and said that it was important for him to have the support of the fans whatever his decision. “You just don't want it to happen now but as I said, I wouldn't like to be him right now because it is going to be a very tricky decision for him,” Henry told reporters.
When asked what he would like, he said that he would prefer for Fabregas to stay. “Everybody knows I love Arsenal so for me as an Arsenal fan, you always want to see Cesc staying at Arsenal. But also how can you blame someone that wants to go back home because that is his home at the end of the day and you knew somehow that was always going to happen.”
"But I will repeat it - as an Arsenal fan you want him to stay but you can't blame someone who wants to go back home,” Henry said and he mentioned how he did not want to say anything that would somehow effect Fabregas’ decision. He said that the Spaniard was perfectly capable of making his own decisions, and he did not, in any way, be held responsible for his decision about staying at Arsenal or leaving for Barcelona.
“But, hey, I wouldn't like to be him right now and I just hope he's going to make the right decision for him at the end of the day and I hope - whether he goes or he stays - that people will understand his decision, that's the most important thing,” the France striker said.
Henry moved to Barcelona from Arsenal three years ago. Henry was, and still is somewhat of a legend at Arsenal, but at Barcelona he failed to impress. He was a benchwarmer for most of the games, hardly scoring any goals in his time there. However, eager to start fresh, Henry completed a transfer to the New York Red Bulls this summer. It is expected that Henry, who has a multi-year deal with Red Bulls, will finish his career in the United States.
The 32 year old, who claims his heart is still at Emirates Stadium, said he would like to return there someday. “What I want to do is when I retire, I don't know how, but I want to come back to Arsenal. I have just come here (New York) to play and to compete and win another title. After everything is done then I will think about it. Whatever it is I want to come back (to Arsenal), maybe as a water boy, I just love this club,” he said.
The Fabregas saga has come to a rest now, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s intervention. Wenger met with Barcelona bound Fabregas at an open training and convinced him not to leave London. In front of thousands of fans, Fabregas agreed and even sat down for the 2010-2011 season official squad photographs. It was revealed that Fabregas has been offered captaincy at Arsenal and will most likely stay this season, but he gave no guarantee about the future. It seems like Wenger has won the battle but lost the war.
