Henry Lundy knocks out David Diaz in the sixth round to defend his title – Friday Night Fights
The Hammerin Hank, Henry Lundy, who is one of the most feared fighters in boxing’s 135-pound division, has successfully defended his North American Boxing Federation’s lightweight title in his first attempt against the Dangerous, David Diaz, at the Horseshoe
Casino.
It was yet another accomplishing performance from Lundy, as he posted his consecutive third victory on Friday. Lundy was knocked down in the fourth round by the 35-year-old Diaz but he showed no reeling effects and bounced back into the game to knock out
the former world champion in the sixth round.
The 27-year-old Lundy, who has now won 19 of his 21 professional fights, with 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, afterwards commented on his win.
Lundy stated stance does not matter much in the boxing as long as one delivers the punches rightly, as the boxer reckons a rightly connected punch does some real damage in any case.
“There’s something about those straight punches,” Lundy said. “When you land those straight punches, you don’t even have to look. You know once you connect, it’s done.”
Lundy then shared his thoughts on his fourth round knock down. He remarked the punch hurt him but God gave him the power to get up and overpower his opponent. He insisted it was up to a boxer to give up or not.
“Everyone can get hurt,” he continued. “Even with gloves on, it doesn’t matter. You can get touched in the right way and go down, but it’s how you finish the fight. Like the scriptures say, ‘We fall down, but we get back up.’ It’s all about how you finish,
and God gave me the power to get up and finish.”
Diaz, who has won 36 of his 40 professional fight including 17 wins coming by the way of a knockout, in the meanwhile thinks he should have stayed with his game plan after he knocked Lundy down.
“I think that was my mistake,” Diaz said. “I should’ve been more calm because my legs were still wobbly.”
