Henry Lundy wins unanimous decision over Patrick Lopez – Boxing update
Henry Lundy has defeated Patrick Lopez in the main PPV event of ESPN2 ‘Friday Night Fights’ show for the lightweight division at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut, on Friday, April 1. Lundy earned a 10-round unanimous decision over Lopez.
Lundy won by scores of 99-991, 97-92 and 95-94 in the ESPN2-televised main event
In his second last fight against John Molina in July, Lundy faced a loss because the bout was stopped in the 11th round. This time he stepped into the ring with an improved fight plan and was impressive especially in the first four rounds. He
tried to dominate Lopez by putting immense pressure on him from the opening bell. From the beginning the fighter was in complete control of the situation until Lopez made a comeback in by putting steady pressure on his opponent in the 7th and 8th
rounds. He pushed Lundy hard to the ropes and tried to deliver hard punches directly to his body.
After this win, Lundy, he has fought 21 total fights, of which he won 19 fights including 11 knockout wins with one loss of bout and one draw. On the other hand his opponent, Venezuelan Patrick Lopez, has fought 24 of his total fights of which he won 20
bouts including 12 knockout wins with four losses including one by getting knockout and no draws.
Lopez was coming to fight after losing a third-round KO to Tim Coleman of United States in 2010. Throughout the fight he looked like he was in a hurry. However he could not judge the hand speed and timing of Lundy and was beaten on most cards.
The first round was quickly taken by Lundy as the three judges gave a score card of 10-9 in his favour. In the second round, Lopez delivered a right hook to Lundy but he was unable to hit many jabs. Afterwards, Lopez received a powerful right and left hand
combination by Lundy and just 20 seconds before the end of the round, Lopez went down to the floor. The scorecard points were 10-8 in favour of Lundy.
In the third round Lopez delivered powerful left handed strikes. The first one was to the body of Lundy and the second one was for the head and as a result Lundy was forced on to the ropes. At the end of this round both the fighters exchanged left hooks.
The round ended 10-9 for Lundy.
In the next round Lopez jumped in and tried to punch like a wild beast but as a result of perfect counter-punching, Lopez lost this round, 10-9. Round five was very close; however Lundy took over in the last minute. Both the fighters were warned by the referee
because head-butts. Lundy won this round by 10-9.
The tide turned again in the favour of Lopez in the sixth round, when he put some pressure on Lundy by winning this round with 10-9. The seventh round saw Lopez attacking but Lundy was looking as he came out on top,10-9.
In the eighth, both fighters tried to punch each other hard. Lopez received another shot of right hooks from Lundy. It was again a comeback round that turned in Lopez’s favour, 10-9.
The ninth round was dominated by Lopez but the tenth round had Lundy’s name on it, who closed out the bout with power shots. The fight was called off by the referee at the end of tenth with Lundy winning by unanimous decision.
